Credits, caps and pricing

How priced operations hold, charge and cap credits, and where to read the price list.

Owlbound is pay as you go: the workspace has one credit wallet, and one credit is $0.01 list value. Reads and workspace writes are free. Data, AI and send operations have a price per call or per target, shown on every operation in the reference.

Hold, then charge what succeeded

  • Before a priced operation runs, its maximum price is held on the wallet. Not enough: 402 INSUFFICIENT_CREDITS and nothing runs.
  • It charges, at most the hold, only for what succeeded: data actions only when they find a value (no result and errors are free), AI actions for every committed answer, sends on a confirmed send only. The rest of the hold is released.
  • Async runs hold per batch of up to 25 targets and settle each batch exactly once.
  • meta.credits.used and the X-Owlbound-Credits-Used header report what a request charged. A replay under the same Idempotency-Key charges nothing.
  • Your own provider keys (bring your own key) are used first where the workspace has them, at no credit cost.

Every v1 key starts with a daily credit cap, and keys with act with a daily send cap. Change them in the Developer tab. Rotating a key keeps its usage for the day. The plan of a dry run shows credits.capRemaining.

Prices

The price list is GET /credits/costs (free): every priced capability and every priced API operation. The action catalog GET /action-typesgives each action's per-target minimum and maximum. Prices below are read from the live spec:
